

The family will be receiving friends on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, from 12 until 1 p.m., at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, with burial at Curry Cemetery. Josh Mayes will officiate.
Jimmye was born in Lake Comerant, Mississippi, on Dec. 11, 1929. She was a graduate of Winston County High School in 1949, went to Florence State Teachers College, started a family in 1950 and then moved to Birmingham in 1951.
She went to nursing school and made LPN and moved to Curry in 1967, worked as a Lab Technician at Peoples Hospital, then worked at Family Health Association and Afterhours Clinic.
Jimmye was the owner of Smith Lake Trade Center and then Abbotts Grocery and Deli in Curry. She was active in her church at Mt Vernon in Curry, where she taught Sunday School and was director of Drama Team. She was director of the “Tired and Retired” Senior Citizen group, which traveled all over U.S. and abroad. Jimmye was a member of Mt. Vernon Quilters. She was a wonderful wife and mother of five children.
Jimmye was preceded in death by husband, Marion E. Abbott; son, John Curtis Abbott; granddaughter, Lauren Abbott; parents, Leo Jenkins and Lydia Jenkins Blake; brothers, Perry Joe Jenkins, L.C. Jenkins, and Donald Jenkins
Jimmye is survived by children, Becky Keeton (Roger), Eugene Abbott Jr (Cindy), Darwin Abbott (Aires), Cynthia Beasley (Kevin); Special Caregiver, Cindy Wright; grandchildren, Stephen Tubbs Jr, Amy Smothers, Jodi Lawson, Matthew Abbott, Nicole Brannon, Julie Abbott, Sally Watts, Shaun Phillips, and Sherri Lockart; 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mission Dignity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Building Fund.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Tubbs Jr., Matthew Abbott, Shaun Phillips, Luke Smothers, Landon Smothers and Logan Smothers.
