Nella Dean grew up in mining camps around Nauvoo. She was always her Daddy’s little girl. She had a big hand in helping to raise her three beloved, mischievous brothers. Her sisters were the age of her own children and she had a maternal bond with them. She and Doc were married in their teens and had three doorstep sons before their only daughter, Barbara, was born. The boys always regarded Barb as receiving special favor and lots of trinkets. Their early married years were spent on a blueberry farm in Michigan with periodic jaunts back to Alabama. They moved permanently back to Nauvoo in the late 1960’s where they serially remodeled a small country house. She was a meticulous housekeeper, woman of faith, patron of KFC and an avid sweepstakes winner including a trip to the 1993 Super Bowl in Los Angeles. She was chronically cold-natured and always kept her house toasty warm. Mops dearly loved all her grandchildren and had a special bond with her grandson Matthew. She spent her final days in Lakewood where she received excellent care and made several friends including her special friend, John Smith. Mops will be missed by a host of family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elvin “Doc” German; parents, Ellis Bevis and Bessie Nix; son-in-law, David Bailey.
She is survived by her children, James German (Lisa), Joe German (Vonda), Roger German (Annette) and Barbara Bailey; grandchildren, Andrew German, Alex German (Brooke), Matthew German, Buddy German, Joshua German (Amy) Laura Sollars (Russ) and Jeremy Bailey (Jessica); great grandchildren, Zander German, Guy Brooks German, Ethan German, Logan German, Aliyah German, Katelyn German, Alexis German, Samantha Woodbury, Lucy Sollars, Thomas Sollars, Richie Sollars, Cole Bailey and Cady Bailey; siblings, Roy Bevis, Jimmy Bevis (Rebecca), Hobert Bevis, Brenda Martin, Sandra Tapp and Pamela Tune and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
