Mr. Barton was born and raised in Boldo, near Jasper. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served honorably for 2 years of active service. In December of 1953, he married the love of his life Edeth Godsey, they were married for 64 years before her death in 2018. After his military service the couple moved to Center Point, where they raised their family and attended Hilldale Baptist Church. They lived there until 1994, when they moved to a home on Smith Lake near Cullman. He resided there until his death. Robert started his life long career as a Barber in Woodlawn, later moving to Eastwood Mall and then to Center Point. There he opened a long time Center Point Fixture, Barton’s Barber Shop. At the time of his retirement in 2010, he had sold his shop, but still worked as a barber at Hair Trimmers in Center Point. After standing behind a barber’s chair for 57 years, Mr. Barton had many customers that turned into life-long friends. After his retirement, Robert enjoyed many activities, including gardening, hunting, fishing, and enjoying lake life with Edeth and their many friends. “Paw Paw’s Lake” provided countless memories for the entire family, including children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
