

Sherywon Keith Calvert, passed away peacefully at his home on Smith Lake surrounded by his family on August 18, 2021. Funeral service was held on Friday, August 20, 2021, at 11 a.m., Kilgore-Green Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Oakhill Cemetery.
Sherywon was born on October 23, 1956. He was a 1975 graduate of Curry High School and was employed by Drummond Coal Company for 43 years. He worked at Arkadelphia, Mill Creek, Beltona, Flat Top, and Cedrum Mines. When the coal industry in Walker County started to decline in 1994 he continued his mining career in Columbia South America with Drummond Ltd. He was instrumental in the opening of Mina Pribbenow, Pit Two, and El Descanso Mines. His passion was his family, Alabama football, playing golf, and fishing on Smith Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Durant and Nora Lee Calvert; grandparents, Andrew and Flora Belle Steele, Wiley Love and Fannie Calvert; father-in-law, Curtis Poe; brother-in-laws: Sammy Dale Freeman and Scotty Elmore and nephew; Matthew Poe.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Elaine Poe Calvert; son, Brett Calvert of Curry; daughter, Beth Calvert Donohue (James) of Gulf Shores; his beloved granddaughter, Annalise Calvert of Boca Raton Florida; sisters, Peggy Elmore, Patsy Brown (Rick), Santha Freeman, Debby Elliott (Chuck); brother, Shannon Calvert (Derinda); mother-in-law, Sue Poe; brothers-in-law, JC Poe (Patty), Doug Poe (Beth) and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers will be his nephews Shellene Elmore, Jason Brown, Brad Elmore, Andrew Freeman, Justin Elliott, Ryan Elliott, Roman Calvert and Carson Calvert.
