

He was born September 29, 1946 in Clarksville, a son of the late Earl E. and V. Rebecca Shaw Leighty.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
On August 19, 1970 he married Erlene McNeely Leighty, who survives.
Mr. Leighty was an optician, and had worked at Revco in Washington, Express Optical in Brownsville, and WalMart Vision Center in Uniontown.
He was a member of Carmichaels Christian Church and the Logston Men’s Fellowship of the church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #400 of Carmichaels
Mr. Leighty enjoyed playing golf with his friends, Barry Elliott, Harry Smith, Jim Townsend and his grandson, Travis. He loved attending his grandson’s 4-H and sports activities.
Surviving in addition to his wife Erlene, are a daughter, Susan McCann and her husband Timothy of Claysville; two grandsons, Travis and Justin; a great-granddaughter Eastyn Jordan; and six sisters, Dolores Larkin of Delaware, Beverly Contrera of Arron, OH, Ellen Mishaga and husband Garrick of Mentor, Ohio, Sandi Colizza of Harmony, Kim Fox and her husband Ken of Argyle, Texas, and Kathy Uphold and husband Mark of East Millsboro.
Deceased are son, Kurt B. Leighty; and a brother, William Leighty.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday in the Behm Funeral Homes, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30 with Rev. John R. Dorean and Pastor Betty Riecks officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be accorded by Carmichaels American Legion Post #440. Memorial donations may be made to the Christian Womens Fellowship of the Carmichaels Christian Church or to the Cornerstone Camp of CBM Ministries.
