

He was born January 21, 1930 in Bridgeton, NJ, a son of the late James A. and Myrtle Wynder Nicholson.
Mr. Nicholson was a retired SSGT with the United States Army and had served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
After his retirement from military service Frank and also worked for several years as a coal miner in the Clyde Mine in Fredericktown.
He and his wife were foster parents for Allegheny County, and were recognized by the Black Adoption Services of Three Rivers Adoption Council and Family Services of Western Pennsylvania for over 30 years of service.
Mr. Nicholson was an active member of the Little Zion Baptist Church of Jefferson before moving, and a member of the Laketon United Methodist Church in Penn Hills. He was also a member of the Retired Enlisted-men’s Association, the American Red Cross in Waynesburg and enjoyed doing carpentry.
On June 30, 1956 he married Loretta V. Banks, who survives.
Also surviving are five children, Kimberly E. Nicholson of Bensalem, Lynnese Y. Nicholson of Penn Hills, Dameion J. Nicholson of Jonestown, Maurice F. Nicholson of Penn Hills and Michael K. Cook of Penn Hills; eleven grand-children.
Deceased are two brothers, James A. Nicholson Jr. and Thomas Nicholson; three sisters, Ponola Williams, L. Marie Nicholson and Fannie E. Nicholson. Frank was the last surviving member of his family.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., the hour of services in the Behm Funeral Homes, Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, with the Rev. James Cherry officiating. Interment in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military Rites accorded by the United States Army.
