He was born May 11, 1945, a son of the late Thomas and Gladys Fordyce Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer was a retired coal miner from Beth-Energy Coal Mine at Marianna.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Moose Lodge#461, Waynesburg.
On June 28, 1963 he married, Carol Ann Greenawalt, who died May 29, 2006.
Surviving are three children, Kevin Shaffer of Bruno, MN, Paul Steven Shaffer of Clarksville and Lori Baker of Clarksville; six grandchildren, Rebecca Shaffer, Benton Shaffer, Randy Shaffer, Natalie Shaffer, Nicholas Shaffer, and Alexis Shaffer; a sister, Rosalie Bush of Clarksville.
At the request of the deceased, the services were private and entrusted to the Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor. Interment was in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg. Condolences may be expressed online at www.behm-funeralhomes.com
