Jerry was born on September 26, 1931, in Champaign, Illinois, to Carol and Clyde Walters. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Education. He met Marilyn, the love of his life, at age 12 and married her after they both graduated from the University of Illinois in 1953. Jerry served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army for two years in Heidelberg, Germany.
Jerry returned to the United States and taught for years at Laraway Grade School in Joliet, IL. In 1965 Jerry and Marilyn became missionaries for the Lutheran Church and served as teachers for four years at the Marangu Teacher’s Training College on the side of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, East Africa. Upon returning to the US, they continued to teach, raise their family and build a home in Mokena, IL.
Jerry retired from teaching in 1983, moved to Florida and continued to travel the world with Marilyn and friends. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his brother Donald, his children David, Kathy and Karol, and 5 grandchildren, Daniel, Loren, Matthew, Christopher and Tiffany.
