

Julius J. Lento a 90 year resident of Bellport and Patchogue passed away, unexpectedly, on June 2, 2022 at age 93. In 2019 he moved to Port St. Lucie Florida with his family. He was active in the community and enjoyed driving to the Jensen Beach causeway, everyday, to meet his friends. He enjoyed doing yard-work, painting and swimming and was active until the last day of his life. He was also a great Dad.
Born and raised in Bellport to Luigi and Louisa Lento, along with his seven brothers and one sister. Julius graduated from Bellport High School in 1948 where is was a avid soccer and track athlete.
He was predeceased by his wife Carol Lento, his parents and his all of his siblings. He is survived by his sons, John Lento and wife Gina, Frank Lento and wife Diane, his 3 grandchildren, Winifred Kummel (Lento) and spouse Adam, Jacquelyn Saccoccio (Lento) and spouse Marco and Jillian Allen (Lento) and spouse Rodney in addition to his two step-grandchildren Colin and spouse Kristina and Erin Ward. He got joy from his 5 Great-grand-children, Dempsey, Leila, Mia, Julian, Genevieve and his step great-grand-child C.J.
He worked for Grumman Aerospace, then owned J & J Painting and Spackling Company with his brother-in-law James Cartwright. He then owned J. Lento Horse Transportation and was a accomplished standardbred horse jockey for over 20 years. Although he worked hard at all these jobs his favorite was working for the Town of Brookhaven for over 15 years, as a dock master at Pine Neck Ave and the Sandspit. He cherished meeting so many boaters, fisherman, crabbers and water enthusiasts over the years and being a part of the Town of Brookhaven team.
Julius joined the US Army in 1948 and achieved the rank of Sargent First Class while he was stationed in Germany and Austria. He also was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal before being honorably discharged in 1952. He was very proud to have served his country.
In the 1980’s he supported and worked with his wife Carol, her sister Claire and other volunteers to support the Medford Volunteer Ambulance Company of which Carol eventually became Chief.
Visitation for Mr. Lento will take place Tuesday May 6th from 6 to 8pm at Aycock Funeral Home in Jensen Beach, Florida.
Visitation for Mr. Lento will also take place Sunday, June 12th from 5 to 9pm at the Robertaccio Funeral Home Inc. in Patchogue, New York. A funeral mass will be held at 10am at Mary Immaculate Church in Bellport. He will be laid to rest immediately following church at Calverton National Cemetery.
