Paula White was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on September 11, 2024 in her temporary home in Jensen Beach, Florida. She relocated to Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1960 and to Stuart, FL in 1979.
Paula White was a Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister and Friend to many and was a devoted daughter. She missed her Mom and Dad every day. Paula was happily married for 25 years to Chief Charles White, Chief of Police of Stuart, Florida for 10 years. Charlie was the Mayor of Stuart when he passed away in 1996. Charlie was a wounded war veteran. Paula stood proudly beside her renowned husband as the first lady of the Stuart Police Dept. They were in the first vehicle to ever cross the Roosevelt Bridge. Her living room was a retreat for police officers seeking council from the Chief. They adored Mrs. White, who always gave them a listening ear and sincere hugs.
Paula White is best known as a highly respected Chaplain at Martin North Hospital for many years. She dedicated her life to supporting families in distress. She impacted so many lives. There were many a night Paula was awakened from sleep to rush to the hospital to comfort parents who’d just lost a child, or a wife or husband who’s spouse was in their last moments. She frequently officiated at Weddings and Funerals. She often counselled ‘first responders’ suffering from PTSD. Paula spent many a night, unable to sleep, suffering with the heartache of people she didn’t even know. She had stacks of Thank You letters from families and individuals she helped.
When Paula’s children lived at home, there was always an extra kid or two at the table or sleeping on the couch. Some were buddies and some of the kids lived there because they had trouble at home. They could always count on empathy, sympathy, a word of wisdom and a cup of coffee at midnight if they needed it. The phrase when someone was troubled…”Should I put on a pot of coffee?” Many of her nieces and nephews spent summers and traveled with their Aunt Paula and Uncle Charlie, which is a highlight of their childhood.
Paula and Charlie moved to Stuart in 1979 when he began as the Chief of Police. She lived in that house of memories, for forty plus years. She felt a great sadness leaving her home, which was a sanctuary of various birds, wildlife and friends and neighbors who stopped by often ‘for coffee’. She spent the last 3 years with supervised care at home, transitioning to Assisted Living. She loved her caregivers and they loved her. With her gentle nature, she hugged them with an ‘I love you’ every day! Paula comforted other residents often, as though she was part of the staff. Thank you especially, Leonie Clarke at home, Marjorie Senior and Felecia D, Sherrie Davis and so many selfless caregivers, who created a loving home for her with great respect.
When Paula would ask often, “You okay?” She meant it. She has given and given in her life. Paula deserves to rest and spend eternity with her Lord and Savior. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
