Aunt Rita was the embodiment of intelligence, compassion, and quiet strength. She possessed a deep and thoughtful mind, but it was the way she used her intellect—with kindness and consideration—that made her so remarkable. She was not only brilliant, but also deeply human, and always attuned to the needs of those around her.
To my mother, Aunt Rita was more than family—she was a steady presence, always offering warmth, understanding, and help when it was needed most. Her generosity was never showy; it was natural, a reflection of who she was. Whether it was a comforting word, a well-timed gesture, or simply being there, she made people feel seen and supported.
She had a rare gift: she never judged. When others might rush to conclusions, Aunt Rita paused to understand. With Alexis, she showed unwavering acceptance and an intuitive understanding of human nature that few possess. She saw people as they truly were—complex, beautiful, and worthy—and embraced them fully.
Aunt Rita’s life was a journey of discovery. She traveled the world not just to see places, but to know people—to explore cultures, listen to stories, and celebrate the differences that make each of us unique. She believed that our diversity wasn’t something to overcome, but something to cherish. And she lived that belief in every interaction.
Her conversations were meaningful—never superficial—and always left you thinking more deeply. And her support, whether emotional, practical, or spiritual, left a lasting impact. She was one of those rare souls who made the world feel a little gentler, a little wiser, and a lot more compassionate.

I will miss you.  We had many great times over the years.  Dick loved doing crosswords with you, and I playing Rummikub.  One of my fondest memories of us together was the Sparrow family reunion in Vermont.  Oh what laughs we had.  May you rest in peace.
