Bonnie was born on February 24, 1949 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and raised in Rocky Mount by her mother Dorothy Brantley and step-father Oscar Brantley.
Bonnie graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School and spent the early 1970’s working at Rocky Mount Public Schools where she would wave the Peace sign to the same stranger on her commute each morning, Gerald Lundy, who would eventually work up the nerve to follow her to work one day and ask her on a date. Bonnie and Gerald married on June 1, 1973.
Together, Bonnie and Gerald wove a career and life-path beyond North Carolina, raising two boys in Athens, Georgia: Jonathan and Jacob Lundy. Eventually settling in East Tennessee, Bonnie worked as an administrator and accountant for Munsey United Methodist Church in Johnson City before retiring on her birthday in 2016.
In addition to her untiring dedication to work, Bonnie was known for her two passions - reading and raising rescue dogs. On weekends, and in retirement, when Bonnie was not working her way through a Stephen King novel, she was watching her dogs run in the afternoon sun.
Bonnie left us this past Monday content, with the peace of mind mothers gain having successfully guided a fledgling young family to its future.
When her boys think of her, they remember her boundless heart and her endless reading - they also remember a thousand rides to school listening to Motown on Atlanta’s Fox 97. Gerald remembers a partner through all for 46 years - the kind everyone hopes to find. And that smile.
In addition to her husband and two sons, Bonnie is survived by her brother, James Isaac Henry, as well as three grandchildren: Diana, Robin and Jonah.
Following a small graveside service for family, Bonnie will be remembered Friday August 17, 2018 in her long-time home, Munsey United Methodist Church, 201 S. Roan Street, Johnson City, Tennessee, where those whose lives she touched are welcome to attend at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, Bonnie’s family would ask that anyone wishing to express their condolences, please donate what they can to the Washington County Animal Shelter in her name, because she could not adopt all the dogs after all.
Bonnie wishes Peace for the world she left behind, as always.
