Janice Lee Hensley

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Janice Lee Hensley, age 83, of Jonesborough, TN passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025.

Janice was born November 16, 1941 in Bristol, TN. She is the daughter of Aubrey and Robbie Moncier. Janice married the love of her life, Ralph Hensley, in 1962. She graduated from Virginia Intermont College with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She lovingly taught kindergarten for two decades at Westview Elementary in Limestone, TN. Janice attended Euclid Avenue Baptist Church in Bristol, and was a member of Eden Methodist Church after moving to Jonesborough in 1977.

Throughout her life, Janice was known by her family and friends to be kind hearted and generous to those around her, constantly exuding love and affection to her family accompanied by her beautiful smile.

Janice is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ralph Hensley of Jonesborough, TN, her sister (and lifelong best friend) Peggy Dowdy of Bristol, TN, her daughter Jill Swain (Rob Swain) of Williamsburg, VA and her grandson Connor Swain of St. Petersburg, FL.

A graveside service to memorialize the life of Janice Hensley and her love of the Lord will be held at Monte Vista Memorial Park, 1900 E. Oakland Ave. Johnson City, TN at 2:00 pm, Friday March 21, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her honor to Eden Methodist Church, 1620 Mill Springs Rd, Jonesborough, TN 37659 (edenmethodist.org).

The family would like to express thanks to the members of Eden Methodist Church for all their love, prayers, outreach and care for Janice and her family before and after her passing. She will be deeply missed, but forever in our hearts.
