Deborah McLaughlin Fown lost a long battle with emphysema early Sunday, November 29, 2015, with her husband by her side. Deborah was born November 15, 1949 in Kewanee, Illinois as the first of 4 children of Henry and Lois (Compton) McLaughlin. In addition to her parents, Debbie was preceded in death by her brother, Patrick McLaughlin.
Debbie, who formerly resided in Marco Island, Florida and Columbus, Ohio, resided with her husband of 36 years in Johnstown, Ohio. In addition to her husband Robert Fown, she is survived by her son, Aaron Fown of Ann Arbor, Michigan, her step-son, Cameron (Mindy) Fown of Millersport, Ohio, and her brothers, Kurtis (Janice) McLaughlin of Butler, Ohio and Brian (Peggy) McLaughlin of Mansfield, Ohio, along with her brother and sister in laws and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends scattered around the United States. Her best friends, Mimi Stevens and Judy Fown, were blessings to her in her final years.
In spite of her illness, Debbie enjoyed traveling to Savannah, Georgia with its Southern charm: four sojourns to that city provided her with some variety in the closing years of her life. Even though she was mostly housebound these past 5 years, and bed bound for the past year, Debbie also managed to keep active with her church, the Johnstown United Methodist Church, as a member of the prayer chain. This blessing enabled her to maintain her fellowship with her fellow church members but also to remain in touch with the blessings and sorrows we all share in life.
Although she has physically left us, she remains a part of us in the love we share for her. Her wish is that in lieu of flowers that a small donation in her name be made to Heifer International, such that a gift of life may given in the face of death.
