Earlen Lee “Smitty” Smith, 69, of Johnstown, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be 10 AM on Tuesday April 2, 2013 at Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 225 N. Main Street, Johnstown, OH, with Rev. Nelson Smith officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born December 3, 1943 in Newark, Oh to the late Earlen and Bertha (Searles) Smith. He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1962, served in the US Army from 1966 to 1969, his overseas duties included; Vietnam and Mannheim, Germany. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. After his military service he became a sheet metal worker for 32 years, until a bad car accident disabled him and forced him into early retirement. He loved gardening, fishing, deer hunting, mushroom hunting, spending time with grandsons and watching football on TV (Big Buckeye Fan).
Survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Ann (Blacklock) Smith, of Johnstown, son, Jerry Brian Smith of Johnstown, daughter, Angela Jeanette (Smith) Laub of Reynoldsburg, and four grandsons, Brandon Michael, Shane Matthew, Chase Arrow, and Talon Lee of Reynoldsburg. Preceded in death by his son, David Brandon in 1989.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the funeral home. There will be an online memorial located at www.cksammon.com.
