Eddie Lee Jewell Jr. was the fifth of six children born to Mr. Eddie Lee Jewell Sr. and Mrs. Lydia Elizabeth Jewell on April 16, 1969. Because Eddie would be the first son born of a single birth to his mother and father after having two sets of twins birthed before him, his father declared: “If this one is a boy, he will be named after me, this one will be called Junior (Jr.).” So, with this being decreed, and the necessary passage of time, Eddie Jr. made his entrance by way of (Jamaica) Queens, NY to begin ‘His Life’s Full Journey’.
After some time, Eddie’s family moved to Atlanta, GA among the foundation of a majority of family roots. As a child, Eddie began to attend, become a member of, get baptized at, and receive his biblical foundation at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in the old John Hope Homes community, surrounded by Morris Brown College, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College. It was there during his formative years that Eddie was active and was at times affectionately called by saying: “Alright Deacon”. Eddie would even begin to drive the church van carrying members to-and-fro as needed for a period of time.
Eddie attended M. Agnes Jones Elementary School, was a 1987 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, and graduated from Georgia State University with a B.A.A. (Bachelor of Business Administration) Degree. Eddie studied and pursued a securities license, and at a time endeavored to be a Securities Professional, being able to advise and trade stocks, bonds and investments.
Eddie worked 16 years of contract security, ending his tenure as an account manager. He also worked for 11+ years as a tax preparer for H&R Block. Likewise, he worked for a time as a telecommunications representative working virtually with Comcast Communications.
Eddie’s work ethic and industriousness to keep pushing, to make it happen, and to make a living was rooted in a firm foundation as demonstrated especially by his mother Lydia, who had a job to do and always demonstrated her commitment to her family; she was hard-working and would never quit no matter what… But of all the jobs that Eddie would traverse, it was this particular job that he would perform over the last several years at the culmination of his life, that would bring him absolute AWE at the thought of it. This job would be as an Uber & Lyft driver. From time to time, one close enough may even recall hearing him say: “Who would have ever thought that of all the work that I have done, that I would ultimately end up doing the work of my father and be a glorified taxi-cab driver just like my dad.” It somehow was just destined to be, Eddie Jr. was a natural... He was a natural driver just like his New York City taxi-cab driving father. Indeed, Eddie was a driver at heart, he had a smoothness, an ease, and a natural sense of direction that was prevalent way before digital navigators were ever on the scene.
As far as his interests goes, Eddie was an avid Atlanta Falcons & Atlanta Braves sports fan. His love for the game was so great, that he would find himself to be ‘The One’ among many fans on the
field during a live game who would choose ‘The Winning Key’ that would result in him starting up the engine and being the winner of a big, beautiful, brand-new, black Ford F-150 Duly Falcons pick-up truck. Wow! What a moment! These were just some of the highlights of Eddie’s life.
Eddie had a way of lighting up every room that he entered with his big warm beautiful smile. His loving heart and positive spirit made everyone feel seen and valued. He truly loved life, always looking at the glass half full and sharing joy freely with everyone he met. He didn’t complain, and always stayed positive and put a smile on others’ faces even in the midst of certain adversity.
Eddie was a life-long dedicated member of The Booker T. Washington Alumni Group along with several other social media group affiliations. His friendships and family relations went far beyond local boundaries or even bloodlines. He made friends and shared his life ‘nearly unfiltered’ with others, not only in person, but hugely through Facebook and other social media platforms that served as a tremendous life-line to him. It was through these true forged relationships that Eddie would receive encouragement, support, and an outpouring of love through his recent health challenges, and even through this present time of his unexpected passing; which just happened to shockingly be on: April 16, 2026; the actual day of his 57th birthday.
Destined By God & Related By Blood: Eddie was preceded in death by both of his parents. Leaving to cherish his memory are his siblings: Greta D. (Jewell) Nathaniel, Gregory D. Jewell, Michele M.
