

John Chau was born on December 7, 1972 in Battambang, Cambodia. He and his sister Alexia Chau are fraternal twins. John Chau immigrated to the United States with his parents and sister when he was seven 7 years old on September 25, 1979. The family stayed with their sponsor in Roswell, Georgia before moving to Jonesboro, Georgia.
John graduated from North Clayton High School in 1993. He attended Clayton State University for 2 years. After college, John went to work full-time with Otto International. John celebrated his 25th anniversary with the company on September 17, 2021.
John married his wife Layva Yen on September 20, 2000 in Cambodia. They have two children. Darrion is 14 years old and David is 8 years old.
John’s hobbies included reading books, watching movies, traveling, and writing poetry. His poem about 911 titled “America Lives On” was published in The Best Poetry in 2002 by The International Library of Poetry.com.
John became a naturalized United States citizen on August 20, 1993. John was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1987.
He is survived by his father, Yam Chau, his mother Yi Chau, his wife Layva Chau, his son Darrion, his son David, his sister Alexia Doeung, his brother-in-law Seilavong Doeung, and his nephew, Alexander Doeung.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Sunday, February 13, 2022 from 9 am until 9:50 am at Tara Garden Chapel Funeral Home, 681 North Avenue, Jonesboro, Georgia 30236, where a Celebration of Life service will begin at 10 am. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro, GA.
