Barbara Broderick, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and radiant soul, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born on March 29, 1940, in Scranton PA, to Paul and Mary (May) Delmar.
Her days were guided by prayer, compassion, and an unshakeable belief in the goodness of God. She carried this light into every room she entered, and her presence brought warmth, laughter, and comfort to all who knew her.
She was the proud and loving mother of five children, each of whom remained close to her throughout her life. Her love for them was boundless — a constant source of strength, encouragement, and deep affection. Her home was always open, her heart even more so, and she celebrated both the everyday and the extraordinary moments of motherhood with joy and grace.
A true lover of music, Barbara found beauty in melody and rhythm. Whether singing anywhere the mood struck, humming a favorite hymn, or dancing with friends and family, music was woven into the fabric of her life. She believed in laughter as both a gift and a remedy, and her wonderful sense of humor was one of her most cherished traits. She could lift spirits with a simple glance or a beautiful smile, and her laughter — bright and sincere — was contagious.
Those who knew Barbara will remember her as someone who loved deeply, laughed often, and lived with a full and grateful heart. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and joy that will continue to shine in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her.
Barbara is predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Jack Broderick and survived by her children Jim and Debbie Shevlin, Pat and Doreen Shevlin, Danny Shevlin, Barbara Shevlin and Andy Campbell, Kelly and Kevin Luchun, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, her sister Joyce Kapuschak, her sister-in-law Beverly Shevlin Shaughnessy, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10 AM, at St. Ann's Monastery and Shrine Basilica, 1233 St. Ann Street, Scranton, PA. Interment will immediately follow at Cathedral Cemetery, 1708 Oram St, Scranton, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider honoring Barbara's memory with a donation to a charity of your choice.
