Britta Jean Rogers Young, 46, entered into eternal life on Saturday, April 23, 2011.
Britta was born on September 9, 1964 in New London, CT., graduating from East Lyme, CT High School in 1982. She was the daughter of the late Dolores (Fi) Brown Rogers and Henry Rogers, Jr.
In addition to her father, Britta is also survived by her husband Vincent Young, daughters Kelsey Rogers, Rachel Young, and Emily Young, all at home. Brother, John Rogers, Sister-in-law, Doris Rogers, Nieces Megan Rogers and Josephine Rogers of Vienna Austria; Mother-in-law Lynn Macco, Brother-in-law Jason Macco, Sister-in-law Kelly Macco, Nephews Landen Macco and Parker Macco; and many friends in Florida and Connecticut.
Besides her husband, her greatest loves were her daughters and niece Megan. Britta did not get the chance to meet her newest niece Josephine who was just born on April 19th.
Britta was the most energetic, exciting person one could ever know. She lived more in her 46 years than many do in a whole lifetime. She was also an amazing artist, she had an amazing sense of humor, she was an avid gardener, and she loved all things Niantic, her home town in Connecticut. Britta moved to Florida over 20 years ago, but returned with her family to Niantic each summer and on weekends throughout the year. She wanted her daughters to experience as she had all the simple things about growing up in a small seaside town. The family enjoyed summers crabbing at Crescent Beach, picking out pumpkins at local orchards in the Fall and sledding down the hill at McCooks in the winter.
Britta was fascinated by lighthouses. She loved them so much that she and her husband Vince were married on the top of the Jupiter Lighthouse in Florida. Britta was a descendant of Augustine-Jean Fresnel the inventor of the lens which is still used in lighthouses today. Early every summer, Britta and her childhood friend, Gretchen would go on a “Thelma and Louise” adventure up the New England Coast in search of as many lighthouses they could find. Britta was a great photographer of not only her beautiful family but of nature, she found much joy in taking pictures while kayaking around the Connecticut coast with her friends and family.
One of Britta’s favorite quotes was by Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” For those of us who were fortunate enough to know Britta, she made each of us feel like we were the most important person in her life.

A Celebration of Britta’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 27th at 6 PM, Aycock Funeral Home.
