John Peter Courembis, Jr. passed away on June 20, 2025, at Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Florida, at the age of 75. John was born on November 10, 1949, in Washington, D.C., the cherished son of the late John Peter Courembis, Sr. and Dorothy Francis Cain Courembis. From the very beginning, his life was a melody of steadfastness, gentle humor, and quiet faith.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Gayle Follin Courembis; sons, Michael Courembis (and his wife), David Courembis, and his daughter, Dawn Nicole Guthrie, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves behind his first wife, Ann Fisher Courembis, whose continued friendship has been a blessing to the family.
John was a man of many gifts. He was an artist whose hands captured beauty, a musician who understood the language of music, and a skilled artist who spent many years at CNN before retiring. His life’s work was felt in the way he lived with humility and a ready smile.
Recently, John moved from Atlanta, Georgia, to Jupiter, Florida, to be near his children, a testament to the deep love he held for his family. His sons, carrying his calm and thoughtful nature, continue to reflect his kindness in their daily lives, ensuring that John’s legacy remains woven into the fabric of those around them.
It is hard to imagine the world without John’s gentle presence, but there is comfort in knowing that he now abides in the presence of the Lord, where there is no pain, only peace. He will be profoundly missed by his family, his many cousins, and the dear friends who walked the journey of life with him.
“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.”
A gathering and celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date to honor a life lived with quiet strength, faith, and enduring love.
