Theodore “Ted” Davis went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 27, 2016 at age 80. Ted was born in 1936 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Dorothy and Alfred Davis. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he also sought to learn more about his Creator, God. Ted became a pilot at the young age of 14, trained by his father. He graduated from Detroit Cass Tech High School in 1955 and then attended the University of Michigan where he graduated with a degree in architecture. While in architecture school, Ted married his college sweetheart Julie Dayton on August 22, 1959 in Grosse Pointe. Their journey together lasted for 56 years. Upon his graduation in 1961, Ted & Julie relocated to the San Francisco Bay area and ultimately moved to Tequesta, Florida in 1967. Ted’s first employment in Florida was at the Palm Beach architecture firm of Stetson & Spina. At age 33, his design for Old Port Cove in North Palm Beach allowed him to become partner in the firm. He eventually opened his own firm in 1974. In his 49-year career in Palm Beach County, Ted designed many interesting buildings and projects, including Temple Emanuel in Palm Beach and numerous DiVosta shopping centers and housing developments. One notable DiVosta project was the record-breaking 1-day house constructed in Palm Beach Gardens in 7 hours and 35 minutes. He also designed medical facilities and office buildings for Bob Shaw and the Rendina Companies. One of his last large projects was the Abacoa community in Jupiter. Throughout his career, several thousand private residences were designed by Ted. During the recession of 2007, Ted further developed his artistic talent using an art form of colored pencil on mylar. His vivid artwork was displayed at the Ann Arbor Art Fair in Michigan. For fun, Ted invented a variety of products, furniture, and jewelry; most notable was a gadget called HandiTray. The scientist in Ted even developed a theory for Artificial Gravity called the Cosmic Matrix Displacement Model (go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Bb627wkjmQ to watch Ted’s presentation). Recently, he lost his brother, Tom, and other good friends. He is survived by his wife, Julie; sons Brad (Veronica “Zaba”), Ann Arbor, MI, Ned, Tequesta, FL, and Jonathan (Natasha), Tequesta, FL; grandson Bradford, and granddaughter Casey. Ted was a true family man and was so loved, and will be sorely missed by all. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 30, 2 pm. at Beacon Baptist Church, 11616 Indiantown Rd, Jupiter, FL 33478. Funeral arrangements are by Aycock-Riverside, Jupiter, FL. Donations to honor Ted can be sent to the Beacon Baptist Prison Ministry at the address above.
