
Agnes Akeneki Kahakauwila, 72, of Hana, passed away on February 14, 2011, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born May 2, 1938 in Pukuilua-Hana. Mrs. Kahakauwila worked as a Syrup Maker with Maui Land & Pineapple Company and retired after 36 years of service. During her retired years, she was a woman that not only practiced the Catholic faith but also took a proactive role in performing countless duties in the Catholic community. She contributed 40 years with whole heartedness and devout dedication, to Holy Rosary-Paia and recently, St. Joseph-Makawao, as a Eucharistic Minister (to patients at Kula Hospital, Maui Memorial, Home Visits), Lector, Choir member, Sacristan, Church Cleaner/Floral Decorator, Religious Educator, Father Damien Bi-Centennial Celebration Planner, Annual Church Fair Planner, Ground Maintenance & Decorator for Father Damien, ss.cc w/Leper Statute-(H.R.), Bereavement Director and Outreach Advocator. She is survived by her sons, Edward G. Kahakauwila, and Leonard A. (Maralee) Kahakauwila; daughters, Ursula M.A. Kahakauwila, Bernardine K. (Gary) Kahakauwila-Pinto, and Agnes (Bernard) Panela; brothers, Joseph Noa (Georgeanne) Kupau Jr., Valentine Kupau, Samuel Kupau, John Koko Kupau, Francis Palakiko Noa Kupau; and Fabian Mauna Kupau; sisters, Theresa Eharis, Annie (Murphy) Kanana, Mary (Nicholas) Kalehuawehe, Cecilia Kupau, and Valorey Ann (John) Leimamo Ng; and 4 grandsons, Micheal, Kepano, Justin, and Jaydn.
Services: Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Makawao, mass at 10:30 a.m., a reception to follow in the church gymnasium. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park.
