

Mrs. Caridad Agdinaoay Basug Manuel was called by her creator on September 1, 2019. She died peacefully at her home. She was born on January 15, 1922 in Banna, Ilocos Norte, Philippines by Calixto Basug and Maria Agdinaoay Basug.
She was a lifelong educator, having obtained a degree in Elementary education and Nation Teachers College in Manila in March 1948. She began teaching at Marulas Elementary School in Valenzule City in June 1948. On April 4, 1959 she obtained her Bachelors of Science in Education at Manuel L. Elementary in Manila. On December 6, 1964 the Board Exam for Teachers was released and she was one of those who passed the test. Transferred to the Division of City School in Manila on June 1964 at Juan Sumulong Elementary School. She came to Maui, November 30, 1974 to join her husband Victor Manuel. They went on to live in Wailuku, Maui on June 8, 1975 where she worked in the Hale Makua Dietary Department. Retired at the age of 68 but continued working until the age of 80 as a cook.
A memorial service having Mrs. Manuel will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Wailuku on Saturday, September 14, 2019. Public viewing to begin at 8:00 a.m. with Mass to begin at 9:00 a.m. Burial to follow on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Maui Memorial Park. A lunch to follow at Good Shepherds Church at 11:30 a.m.
She will be laid to rest with her husband at Maui Memorial Park in the Garden of Meditation. Survived by her adopted daughter Joyce M. Santos; grandson, Lawrence M. Santos, Sergi Lampitoc, Karl Rupisan; nephew, Roy (Menchie) Lampitoc; niece, Sonia Rupisan; granddaughter, Christine Fernandez and the grandchildren in Hawaii and Philippines.
