
Jack Thompson of Spreckelsville died peacefully at home under Hospice care on August 21, 2011. Born and raised in California, Jack was an educator and school administrator until he retired in 1982 from Aptos High School. He married Jane Rivas and moved to Maui at that time and became involved at Seabury Hall where he was on the board of trustees for many years. Jack also revitalized the Spreckelsville Community Association, which remains active today. Jack is survived by his wife Jane, son Joel Thompson and his wife Karen of Hilo, daughter Lori and her husband Javier of Spain and his stepdaughter, Julia Frey of Los Angeles. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Gray of California and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife Camille, their son Gary, and Jack's stepdaughter Jennifer Callahan. Jack was a Marine who served in combat in the Pacific in World War II. He was an avid golfer at the Maui Country Club with his partners Jerry, Bill, Ted and Tom. At Jack's request, there will be no memorial service. A celebration of his life will be planned for the near future. Donations can be made to either Hospice Maui or Seabury Hall.
