Lawrence "Duna" Makahinu Cockett, Jr., 83, of Wailuku, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Maui Memorial Medical Center. "Duna" was born on December 01, 1927 in Pu'unene, Kahului. He was a retired Private First Class for the Army of the United States. He is survived by his five sons, Lawrence (Patricia) Cockett, III, Patrick (Dawn), Byron (Linda), Benjamin (Noelani), and Major Cockett; two daughters, Jackie Sacapanio and Beverly Cockett; three brothers, Edmund (Martha), Gordon (Winifred), and Benjamin (Naomi) Cockett; eleven grandchildren; eight grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Kamaka Pu Cockett; his parents, Lawrence Makahinu Cockett Sr., and Agnes Haru Matsui Cockett; and his two brothers, Abraham Darly, and Patrick Agnes Cockett.
Visitation: Family and friends are invited to gather for funeral services on Friday, May 27, 2011 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului. Visitation will begin 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Services: Service at 11 a.m.
Interment: Burial will follow 1 p.m. at the Maui Veteran's Cemetery in Makawao.
