Magdalen “Maggie” Ho’opi’i passed away peacefully at her home in Waiehu on July 4th, 2018. She was born on March 7th, 1941 in Wailuku, Maui.
Maggie was married to Clarence who served in the Army for 20 years. She traveled the world with him for many years before calling Maui home again. She enjoyed working with the children at Waihe’e School and also worked as an assistant in the library. She later gave all that up to be the best “Mama” to her grandchildren, whom she helped raise.
Maggie enjoyed working with all kinds of plants and had the best green thumb. She was a taro farmer, and a very hard worker who could out work the best of us.
She is predeceased by her husband Clarence Ho’opi’i and a granddaughter Katelyn Ramos. She survived by Yvonne (John) Medeiros, Michele Ho’opi’i, Lynette (Nelson) Ramos, and Kalani (Dayle) Ho’opi’i; hanai daughter, Tricia Simpson.
Maggie was a wonderful “Mama” to 8 grandchildren, Joshua Ho’opi’i, Malia (Sam) Howarth, Makalea (Liz Akau) Medeiros, Nelson (Mercedes) Ramos, Makoa Medeiros, Kapono Ho’opi’i, Isabella Ramos, and Iaukea Ho’opi’i Ampong. She also has 2 great grandchildren Ku’uleialoha Howarth and Makanalei Medeiros. She is survived by Aloysius (Starla) Silva, Bernadette Rocha, Dominic (Cheryl) Silva, Louis – deceased (Barbara) Silva.
She was a truly remarkable, strong and kind person with a heart of gold who always put her family first. We know she is happy walking hand in hand again with dad.
