Mary Helen George was born August 21, 1946 in Cassville, MO to Frank and Elsie George of Purdy, Missouri, the youngest of 7 children and the first in the family to be born in a hospital. Her early years were spent on the family farm, followed by a 17-year career with the telephone company, first in Springfield, MO before transferring to Sacramento, CA in 1970. While working for Pacific Telephone she received a BS degree in Business Administration from Sacramento State University, and later earned a Masters degree from California State University, East Bay. In 1983, as the Bell System was split into smaller entities, she moved to Danville, CA and began a career as a real estate broker, where she met her future wife. She retired in 2009 after 15 years working for East Bay Municipal Utility District, and in retirement volunteered at the Bay Area Crisis Nursery in Concord and enjoyed creating a beautiful flower-filled landscape before spending her last few years in Maui, HI. She is survived by the love of her life, Linda Winters and son Nicholas Lai (Paulyne); her sister, Marjorie George of Washington DC; many nieces and nephews and their families.
