Naheana Sonny Keahi passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on April 28, 1985, and raised in Lahaina, Maui. Naheana lived a full and complex life, marked by love, hardship, laughter, and lessons learned along the way.
He had a big heart and a bold spirit—always willing to help others, often in quiet and unspoken ways. Those who knew him best saw both the good and the struggle, and loved him still. He made people laugh, he showed up when it mattered, and even when life pulled him in difficult directions, he carried a deep love for his ‘ohana.
Naheana is survived by his mom, Jonnie Keahi; sisters Kukui and Kekuulani; hānai brother and sister, Nipuʻu and Tiffy; and his siblings on his father’s side—Dave, Soo-Jin, TJ, and Les. He is also survived by many aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly and will forever hold him in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Moon and Primrose Keahi, and Mama Nani Teruya—all of whom were central figures in his upbringing and provided the steady love and guidance that shaped much of his life.
Since becoming ill in 2023, Naheana was supported with love and care from his family—especially from Mama Ann, whose dedication and hands-on help brought him laughter, comfort, and strength during his final stretch. Uncle Anoai also played a meaningful role in caring for him, often stepping in with quiet support and a steady presence when it was needed most.
Naheana leaves behind a trail of memories—some beautiful, some painful, all honest. His story, like many, was imperfect. But he was loved. And he will be missed.
Services for Naheana will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Ballard’s Family Mortuary. A private family viewing will take place from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by a public viewing. Services will begin at 7:30 p.m., with a final viewing at 8:30 p.m. Cremation to follow.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Canoe Beach from 11:00 a.m. until pau. The family kindly requests loose flowers, as there will be a flower scattering at sunset.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Shawna Dunlap and all the nurses and doctors at Maui Memorial Medical Center, along with Joe Ponce and the security guards; and to Erin Kamai and the team at Hospice Maui for the compassion and support they provided in Naheana’s final days. Special thanks also to Luz Alonzo and Rodel Torres for their consistent care, kindness, and support in helping Naheana get where he needed to be with dignity and comfort. Deep gratitude as well to Scott Corderman of Kaiser Permanente and Maui’s Alzheimer’s Association, and to the staff at Maui Adult Day Care—both Ocean View and Kahului locations—for their care, guidance, and unwavering support throughout his final years.
On behalf of the ‘Ohana Keahi, mahalo piha for the deep love, prayers, and support shown to us over these past few difficult years. It has been an incredibly heavy journey, and through it all, we have been lifted by the aloha, compassion, humility, and grace of so many. Your kindness has carried us, and we are forever grateful.
