
Neal Alan Hanalai Bal, 68, of Kahului, Maui; passed away on December 5, 2014 at his residence under the care of Hospice Maui. He was born on December 21, 1945 in Wailuku, Maui TO Vivian (Sonny) Bal and Anne Kailewa Bal.
Neal retired as Deputy Fire Chief after serving over 33 years with the Maui County Fire Department.
Among all his successes he was a business owner, avid pilot, truck driver, mechanic and commercial fisherman. He enjoyed drag racing, building and restoring cars, traveling, spending time with family and friends and of course Hawaiian music. He lived by his ethics and by the code of a gentleman, as passionate as he lived, he expressed it by genuinely loving people. His last words as he reached his hands out “I’m going to the meadows.”

Services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wailuku from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with mass to begin at 11:00 a.m.; cremation to follow. A celebration of Neal’s life will be held at the VFW Clubhouse 1136 Uluniu Rd., Kihei after church services.
Neal was predeceased by his wife, Linda Lee (Larsen) Bal and is survived by his son, Clayton J. Bal; daughters, Debbra (Jose) Velez, Juliane (Mark) Pokini; hanai son, Thomas (Kalei) Maalea; brothers, Vernon Bal, Mervin Bal, Clayton H. Bal; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and his companion, Rana Nuesca.
