Tim was born on August 8, 1945 to Estelle and Henry Beumler and raised in the border town of Douglas, Arizona. Always up for learning something new or trying something different, Tim played the tuba in his high school marching band, DJ'd for the school radio station, and developed skills through many years in the boy scouts which he would end up putting to good use all of his life. But, boy scout or not, there was no mischief that he and brothers Henry and Edward found to be too much of a challenge.
Tim earned degrees in history, anthropology, and education. After obtaining his master's degree from the University of Arizona, Tim, like many young men of that era, left for Vietnam, where he was awarded, among other accolades, The Bronze Star. A career in the Army followed, and Tim, who was fluent in Spanish, worked and lived in every country in Central and South America. He was a popular instructor at both the US Military Academy-West Point, and The School of the Americas. When he wasn't working, Tim could often be found on his boat fishing for Dorado off the coast of Puerto Rico.
Following two decades in the military, Tim embarked on a twenty-year career as a grip in the film industry. He was a loyal member of IATSE Local 80 out of Hollywood. He had great fun dancing with Jodie Foster at the wrap party for the movie "Nell." He cut off the tip of his finger laying dolly track for the Stephen King film "Desperation." He and friend Dave had a blast dismantling a BMW (a rental!) to turn it into a chase car to photograph a Lamborghini shoot. Tim conceived, produced, directed, filmed, and edited "The Great Bisbee Coaster Race 1914-2003" documenting in great historical detail the oldest gravitational pushmobile race in the world, held every year on the Forth of July in Bisbee, Arizona.
In 2001, Tim went on a blind date with a lawyer friend of his sister Candy, and that was all she wrote. For the next twenty years, Tim and Donna were partners in life's often great and sometimes terrible adventures. Married on the beach at Hanalei Bar, Kauai, Tim, thus far a lifelong bachelor, devoted himself to being the best husband he could possibly be, supporting his wife unconditionally with the utmost love and affection.
Tim adored his dogs, and was a pushover when it came to treats and pets. Also, he could fix anything; once when he was in California shooting a pilot for a tv series, Tim talked Donna, at home in Arizona, through a plumbing repair on the phone, lest she spend money for a plumber on what was to him an easy fix. He was also a reader, often happily immersed in Colleen McCollough, Bernard Cromwell, or Terry Pratchett. A man who loved all animals, Tim had a special place in his heart for elephants, including an orphaned baby elephant names Nabulu who he adopted through the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
Above all else, Tim was a golfer; he was a real stick, and once took golf lessons from Sam Snead. One of the greatest joys of his life was traveling through Scotland with Donna, playing the great links courses and paying homage to Old Tom Morris. He was a proud member of Makalei Golf Club in Kona, and was among the group of hardworking volunteers who restored and maintained the local community golf park in North Kohala. He loved that place.
Tim was a beloved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and husband. He was an honest, compassionate, smart, generous, and humble man. He had plans to travel with Donna and continue to golf, fish, and enjoy life in beautiful Hawaii. But time and tide wait for no man, and Tim lost his brutal but valiantly-fought battle with cancer on July 11, 2023. He will be deeply missed and forever loved as he heads over the Swilcan Burn Bridge with his cherished kids Auggie and Lola at his side.
