Van retired after 33 years of welding at HC&S, the former “Sugar Plantation” He was last stationed at Kaneohe, Oahu where he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps. Van was the founder and President of the Red Legion MC, Maui Chapter.
He is survived by his son, Dustin L. Smith (Misty Branco) of Kihei; daughter, Vanessa and Francesca and their mother Lora Ann Smith of Wailuku; his brother, Robert C. Smith III (Lynn), of Canton, GA, and daughters, Meghan Smith, Amber and Nicole Bates. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Jacob, Zyana and Saige; and brothers-in-law, Lawrence Seno Jr. (Robin) and sons, Sam and Eli of Eugene, OR, and Craig (Cindy) Seno of Kailua, Oahu.
