Willy enlisted in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict. Willy served on the Native Hawaiian Historic Preservation Council as Big Island representative chair person. He did his utmost to protect Hawaiian burials, lands, and rights. He ran for a position in OHA twice with the slogan, "Don't be silly, vote for Willy". He also participated in the resurgence of the "Lua" and was a practitioner with Pa Kui a Holo. Willy also returned to college and obtained a degree in the field of substance abuse in which he used to help our youth with guidance and inspiration as well as hundreds in recovery. Willy himself was in his 30th year of sobriety at the time of his death. Willy also tried his hand in bee keeping and building surfing canoes on the island of Kaua'i. He was a proud grandfather, a father, one of the most lovable people we will ever know. He walked humbly, yet with purpose. He often said "I neva accomplish a bunch of great tings in my libut at least I participated in em".
He is dearly missed.
