

Barbara was born in Vancouver in 1940 to Joseph Haydu and Isabella Haydu (Polinkas). She was the sister of Iris and Daniel Haydu. In 1946, the family moved to Ashcroft, where Joe worked for Bundus as a blacksmith. In 1948, the family moved to Sumas Atkinson Road, where she attended elementary school. In 1952, they moved to Kilgard, where her father worked for Clayburn. Barbara attended MSA Junior High School, finishing Grade 10. She then went to Vancouver, where she worked at Hudson’s Bay and Elmer Dress and Sewing. Barbara married Vancouver City policeman Archie Conroy in 1959 at Abbotsford United Church. They had two sons, Brady (Colette) and Wade, and lived in Mission before moving to Fife at Christina Lake, finally settling in Westsyde, Kamloops, in 1971.
Barbara worked in the Receiving Department at Simpson Sears, Peter's Nursery, and the Turf Farm on Dairy Road. She completed her high school diploma at Cariboo College, where she took Early Childhood Education, and then worked at the Childhood Development Center in 1979. In 1984, she worked as a teacher’s aide, and in 1991, she became a custodian for the Kamloops School District before retiring in 1999.
Her hobbies included horseback riding with the Westsyde Trail Riders, dressmaking, and singing with the Sweet Adelines. Barbara had three grandchildren: Philip (Cheyenne), Jonathon, and Deanna (Cody).
The family would like to thank Interior Health, Overlander Extended Care, Blue Cross, and all the people at Gemstone Care Center for their care, as well as her dear friends Louise, Irene, and Sharon for their friendship.
A small committal ceremony will be held at Hillside Cemetery on Friday, May 15, at 10:00 a.m.
