It is with the heaviest hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ellen ‘Bernice’ Resch at the age of 96 after a brief and chaotic illness she is now at peace.
Born in 1929 in Killarney Manitoba, the eldest daughter of Gordon Anderson and Helen Beattie she spent the first eleven years of her life in Manitoba on the family farm before moving to Vancouver with her mother, father and younger sister Marian. She would tell the story of moving in the dead of winter from rural Manitoba to a very large and very rainy Vancouver, this was both exciting and very confusing for a prairie girl.
She married and had her six children, the pride and joy of her life. The family moved from Vancouver to Prince George and finally settled in Kamloops in 1970. In 1972 they moved into their house on Nicola street and she later bought it in 1974 where she remained until her passing. She was beloved by so many throughout the years and those who walked through her door regularly; family, friends, and friends of family always felt welcomed in her home knowing they could stay as long as they wanted to or needed to, she never turned anyone away.
My grandma is so loved and will be so missed. If you knew her, you knew she was the absolute best. She is survived by her beloved sister Marian. Her children Lynda, Brian, Gayle, Jim and Joanne. Her grandchildren Susan, Brittney, Nicole, Lorne, Ronnie, Jamie, Shayne and Jamie. Her great-grandchildren James, Gabby, Sam, Max, Ollie, Sophia, Mason, Chloe, Tanner, Callie, Tristan and her three great-great grandchildren as well as her dog Mitzi.
She is pre-deceased by her mother Helen (1996) father Gordon (1969) and son Billy (1968) as well as her many dogs and cats throughout the years.
Anyone who knew my grandma knew how warm, tough and funny she was. She deeply cared about her family and was always a safe and welcome place to land. She was a life long baker, lover of cookbooks, lover of flowers, shopping (a sale loved to see her coming) reading and gossip. Everyone would always comment on how spry, sharp and witty she was for being such an advanced age. We’re so grateful we had so many years with her.
At her request there will be no service and in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Northern Hope Dog Rescue Society in her name as she was a life long animal lover. We learned after her passing that she would carry with her newspaper clippings, notes and obituaries from over the years that she would look at frequently, we hope this would make her proud.
