Jeffrey Thomas Nelson was born on November 19, 1986, in Calgary, Alberta, to Bruce and Catherine Nelson. He was the youngest of three boys, joining his older brothers, Ryan and Matthew.
In August 1992, the family relocated to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where Jeff began Kindergarten. One year later, in August 1993, the family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where Jeff attended school from Grade One through Grade Six. During this time Jeff began to show his love and passion for rugby.
In August 1999, the Nelson family finally settled in Kamloops, British Columbia. It was in Kamloops that Jeff met the love of his life, Chanel Wills. Both attended South Kamloops Secondary School, and their relationship quickly blossomed into a lifelong love story. Jeff and Chanel were married on November 9, 2005, and began building a life together surrounded by family and friends. Determined to provide for his family, Jeff entered the construction industry and became a skilled framer, helping build homes and apartment= complexes throughout the region. He took great pride in his work and in his ability to support those he loved.
When the economic downturn slowed the construction industry, Jeff carefully considered his future and chose a new path. He joined CN Rail as a Conductor and, through hard work, a Locomotive Engineer. His commitment to excellence earned the respect of his colleagues and reflected the determination that characterized his entire life. Above all else, Jeff cherished his family. He spent as much time with them as possible and treasured every opportunity to create memories together. The family enjoyed travelling whenever circumstances allowed, sharing adventures throughout the United States, Cuba, and on numerous trips to Mexico.
Jeff was a devoted father whose children were the center of his world. He was a loving husband, a loyal friend, a caring son, and a proud brother. The passing of his beloved wife, Chanel, after twenty years of marriage left him heartbroken. Yet even while carrying the weight of her loss, Jeff continued to put others before himself. He remained steadfast in caring for and supporting his children by drawing on a strength that inspired everyone around him. Through the 20 years of being married, Jeff and Chanel built a beautiful family with love, passion, and dignity that has never been seen from any other couple.
Those who knew Jeff will remember his generous heart, his unwavering dedication to family, and his willingness to help others through life's challenges. His strength, compassion, and sense of responsibility touched countless lives and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jeffery is predeceased by his wife Chanel and is survived by his four children, Blake, Zoe, Zane, and Cadence; his parents, Bruce and Catherine Nelson; one brother, Ryan, and one brother Matthew, who predeceased him. Jeff is also survived by his extended family and many friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.
While our hearts are broken by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that his love, his selflessness, and his memory will live on through his children and through all those whose lives he touched. He will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
The Nelson family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the family members and friends who have reached out with countless acts of kindness during this difficult time. Your love, generosity, support, and prayers have been overwhelming and deeply appreciated.
