Gemstone Long Term Care Facility on July 19, 2020. Her daughter Louise and I had been by her side comforting her for many days.
She grew up in the B.C. interior but called Kamloops home. Joyce moved from Kamloops to complete a Fine Arts degree at the University of Victoria and became a teacher in the Greater Victoria School District. Here she made her new home and opened her business “Potter’s Corner Educational Services.” Joyce taught all ages of students, giving pottery, sculpture, painting, glass fusing, and abstract art lessons. Her art was displayed in many galleries in Victoria.
Joyce eventually moved her business to her Victoria home in order to care for her mother, Aileen M. Sargent, who had moved to Victoria to be nearer to Joyce and her grandchildren, and to escape the cold long winters of the interior. Aileen enjoyed life and passed peacefully in her bed at the age of 95.
Joyce loved all plants, flowers, trees, mountains, and small animals, and was able to win the trust of people and abandoned pets through her always present need to help those who needed “just a little kindness and consideration “to get through life’s difficulties.
Joyce did not want any “fuss or bother” over her passing but wished to be placed with her mother back home in Kamloops, at Pleasant Cemetery. She is missed by her children, Louise, Carl and James, her six grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her sister Ruby and best friend Lily and I am sure many of the students she taught in Victoria and in Kamloops. Peace and happiness Mom, you are safe from danger now, and all promises I made are kept. I planted a new climbing rose tree instead of buying flowers and encourage others to plant a flower or tree in your memory too. James
