Leo Dell Shaw

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Leo Shaw on September 25, 2026. Leo was born on July 31, 1946 in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by his parents, Margaret & Leonard and brother Malcolm, numerous brothers-in-law, Bill, Don, Ron and Neil, and his mother and father-in-law, Agnes & Wes Stringer. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Norma.

Leo grew up in Archerwill, Saskatchewan, with his brothers Malcolm and Glen until his late teens. Leo started working as a bull cook in camp and then made the decision to move to BC and work for his brother, Malcolm, as a driller's helper at his Company. The following years found Leo working in many smaller communities in BC, Alberta, and the Yukon before finally settling in Kamloops. Leo married and had two children, Bev & Bonnie (John). Then in 1977 he went on to marry Norma and became father to her two daughters, Linda (Brian) & Connie.

Shortly after, Leo went on to obtain his pilot's licence. He bought his first plane and enjoyed flying to various job sites as well as logging many hours of pleasure flights along the way. Leo worked hard for many different drilling companies over the years until he and Norma formed LDS Diamond Drilling Ltd. in 1987, which they built into a successful company until he sold it in 2007. Leo formed many lasting friendships in the drilling community.

After selling the company he continued his dream of racing thoroughbred horses. Leo and Norma enjoyed many happy and successful years racing and made lifelong friendships at the race track in Vancouver as well as racing in Alberta, California, Washington and Florida. In the off season he enjoyed tending to the horses on their property in Barnhartvale. He also spent many hours on the property with his tractor and lawnmower keeping it in a pristine park like setting which he took great pride in.

Leo enjoyed hosting get togethers with family on the property but also enjoyed seeing the taillights on the way out! Leo had a quick wit and sharp tongue with strong convictions on many subjects. One could say he had "no filter". Leo had an extremely generous heart and loved to give gifts to his loved ones and was generous to various organizations.

Leo is also survived by his brother Glen (Donna), grandchildren, Derek (Myranda), Cody (Kiana), Kyle, Sheldon, Ashley, Courtney (Saik), Ella, Jack, and great grandchildren Ziyan & Esmae. Leo also leaves sisters-in-law, Barb, Shirley, Janice & Wendy and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends including his morning coffee crew. At Leo's request there will be no service. A small family gathering will take place at a future date.
