

It is with love and great sadness that the family of Robert 'Bob' MacGowan, regret to announce his passing on August 16th, 2026 at the Royal Inland Hospital. He passed peacefully with his loving family surrounding him.
Bob was born March 6th 1959 in Red Deer Alberta. His family moved to Kitamat and then Kelowna in 1972. In his early twenties, while working for the department of Highways, Bob was temporarily stationed in Kamloops. This is where he met his best friend and soulmate, Betty. They started their life together in June of 1981 and moved to Mackenzie BC the next year to manage a mobile home park.
In Mackenzie Bob had many new experiences running the trailer park, from snow removal in the winter to broken waterline in the spring. Playing in the mud was a regular occurrence. Throughout his life, but especially during this time, he faced every challenge with courage and grace. He loved to swim and started coaching kids in the rainbow swim club. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time and always spending time with his growing family.
In 1987, they moved to Kamloops to join the Hampel family in a hotel business venture. Over the years Bob spent time coaching his kids soccer, skiing with his family in the winter and camping and boating in the summer. Bob had a kind nature and a ready smile. He had a way with the animals and enjoyed walking the dogs and spending time at the horse ranch. During their life together Bob and Betty traveled and met with friends and family around the world.
Bob was a son, brother, cousin, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is already dearly missed.
Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty 'Hampel' MacGowan and their children, Derek (Heidi) MacGowan ,Jared (Brittany) MacGowan, Kyle MacGowan, and Kerri MacGowan (Darren Coady) His 5 grand children; Kaden and Azalea MacGowan, Aurora and Scarlett MacGowan and Zephan MacGowan Coady.
He is also survived by his father Daniel MacGowan and sisters Linda Amundrud (Paul Chartrand) and Janet Amundrud (Doug).
Bob was predeceased by his mother Dorothy MacGowan in 2013
Our family also wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors at RIH for their exceptional care, understanding and the kindness they showed Bob, and all of us, who shared his final days. We also wish to thank Father Clinton of the Sacred Heart Cathedral for his compassion and spiritual care.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Cathedral on Saturday October 17th 2026 at 11am. with Father Derrick officiating.
Following the service, please join us for a light lunch and social gathering downstairs in the parish hall.
