I am saddened to hear that Nunda Rao has passed away. I have tried to locate him online over that past several years without success. I recalled he visited Nova Scotia in the past (my birthplace) and I thought that was were he might have retired.  Today my search found his obituary. 

Nunda was a mentor to me in the early 80's when, after dropping out of university, I obtained a job with the department of Education, GNWT. I was in computer science but found the transition to university from high school difficult.  I believe Nunda worked in the Bureau of Statistics at the time. Nunda and I shared the love of computer programming and Nunda began giving me assignments learning FORTRAN, a programming language. He was a great teacher and a kind man. I did go onto get my computer science degree and my first position post graduation was with the Bureau of Statistics. I do not recall when Nunda retired and left the NWT but we lost touch after that.

I would have loved to have reconnect with him before his passing. He was a great man.

I, M C Uttam, Nandu's classmate in IIT Madras and a long time family friend too, miss him a lot. My wife Geeta, daughter Shweta and son Paritosh, all know Nandu so well that they find it difficult to believe that Nandu is not with us. Nandu's every vist to India included visit to Shriharikota or Trivandrum, or wherever we were residing at that time.

I first met Nunda when his good friend Joanne persuaded him to come to our Kamloops Parkinson Awareness Group.  He was reluctant at first but soon became a regular attendee.  We will miss his gentle manner and pleasant smile.

I was a very fortunate person in 1971 to have Nunda as my roomate at the University of Toronto.  We both ended up living in Saskatchewan. Nunda worked in Regina and I in Saskatoon. We had a wonderful time visiting each other in our new respective cities. Nunda invited me to spend New Year in India and I invited him to Nova Scotia for Christmas. The India visit was an adventure that I will never forget. I am sure that Nunda had never forgotten his first night camping in a tent in a hurricane.  Nunda went on to be my Best Man when I married in 1977 after moving back to Nova Scotia. Since then he has been like an uncle to out three children. Nunda has always been there through good and bad times. He has been my mentor and advisor in matters concerning finances. He was the most intelligent and loyal friend that one could ever deserve to have in a lifetime. I shall never forget him and wish him all the best in his new celestial adventure.

He lived a good and useful life, and I am sure whoever is keeping accounts will give him full marks for the wonderful deeds that he did for the sake of others, in a really selfless way.

Dear Nunda, I am sure we will meet again in some birth as our friendship is eternal.

I am the nephew of Mr V Nunda Rao by name Jayesh Chandra S Pai, son of Mr Shankarnaryaynan (elder brother to V Nunda Rao).  We deeply regret the passing away of my Uncle and a wonderful human being.  We deeply thank all his friends in Kamloops who were beside him and took care of him.  Hope he rests in peace.
