Vernon Marshall Harpe

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Vern Marshall Harpe, who was born on September 28, 1951, in Pikwitonei, Manitoba. Vern passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, at the Hospice Centre in Kamloops, British Columbia, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Vern leaves behind his beloved son, Derek (Emilie), as well as his siblings: Karen of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Sharon (Jack) of Kamloops, British Columbia; and Bill (Terry) of Logan Lake, British Columbia. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Les "Tiger" (Mahomad) (Victoria, British Columbia) Mike(Mary Ann ) Vancouver, British Columbia, Ryan(Geraldine) Vancouver, British Columbia along with many cherished nieces and nephews: Linda, Anna (Doug), Sandra (Phil), Michelle (Dave), Darlene (Steve), Andrea (Sara), Debbie (Don), Maya, Callie, Peyton, Dale(Karen) Joe(Cory) Allan (Patti), Wayne (Maureen), David (Brynn), Dion (Heather), and Billy (Tristan) Noah, Jack and Charlie. Vern also leaves behind numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, a few Aunts and numerous cousins all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Vern was predeceased by his beloved wife, Michele; his grandparents; his parents, Josela and Raymond Harpe; his sisters, Mildred, Saundra, and Ann; and his brothers-in-law, Gilbert, Bruce, Terry, and Bill.

Vern completed his schooling in northern Manitoba and began his working life as a mail carrier. In 1972, he moved to Logan Lake, British Columbia, where he began a long and dedicated career at Lornex Mine, later known as Highland Valley Copper. Over the years, Vern became a highly respected Heavy Duty Mechanic and earned his Red Seal certification. He was also a mine firefighter and obtained his Food Handler Certificate, among many other accomplishments. Vern took great pride in continually learning new skills and helping others with his knowledge and expertise.

Beyond his career, Vern was known for his quick wit, warm personality, and remarkable talent for entertaining others. Music was one of his greatest passions along with pool. As a DJ and karaoke host, he brought joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories to countless gatherings. He proudly served as Master of Ceremonies and DJ for many weddings, celebrations, and community events over the years. His ability to connect with people, tell stories, and make others smile made him a beloved presence wherever he went.

A gifted musician, Vern loved playing guitar and singing. He had an endless supply of jokes and stories that brought joy to everyone around him. He generously shared his talents by entertaining seniors in personal care homes,wher his music and warm personality brightened many lives.

In his spare time, Vern enjoyed keeping his mind active through jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, card games and board games. Whether spending time with family and friends, sharing a laugh, playing music, or enjoying a freindly game, Vern embraced life with enthusiasm and kindness.

Vern will be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, strong work ethic, and the friendships he built throughout his life. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Hospice Centre in Kamloops for their compassionate care and support during Vern's final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Coast Hotel, 1250 Rogers Way, Kamloops, British Columbia.
