Conrad James “CJ” Caravalho, of Kaneohe, Hawaii, was born on May 12, 1959, and passed away on April 27, 2025, at the age of 65. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Sandra Caravalho; and sister, Corrie Chinault.
After graduating from James B. Castle high school in 1977, Conrad moved to Santa Rosa, California, where he earned an Associate of Science degree in Sports Medicine. While studying, he worked as a bartender at the renown Tachibana Japanese Restaurant. As the favorite of many patrons, he brought life and merriment by pouring drinks with expert flair. It was clear that even as a young man, Conrad’s magnetism was great, as witnessed by the thousands of people who were happy to call him friend. Upon graduation, Conrad returned to Hawaii and secured employment with the City & County of Honolulu. He progressed to Journeyman Electrician and became a union member and officer of United Public Workers - UPW Hawaii. Conrad was highly valued and sought out for his determined style and leadership. His indomitable spirit was rewarded by an appointment to a special delegation in Washington, DC, where he successfully represented the union in their government political action commission.
As a man of strong Christian Faith, Conrad found a vibrant church home at Word of Life Hawaii, where he worshiped the Lord and enjoyed fellowship with his beloved daughters. His drive to excellence continued through various works at the church. From coaching at the academy, to overseeing building projects, his giving heart and contagious “joy of life” touched the lives and hearts of all who knew him. Conrad loved to help people. From his long-time friendships and association with his high school alma mater, to fundraisers flipping Huli-Huli chicken in huge parking lots, to charming the “Aunties” at lei stands into giving him bulk discounts, Conrad was there. Conrad would show up doing his magic as always, “... with expert flair.” To the world, he was known as "CJ", but to those who knew him well, his great aloha spirit and engaging style led to him being called the "Mayor of Kaneohe".
Conrad is survived by his children, Ryan Ramsay, Ceerena Caravalho, Celyne Caravalho; stepchildren, Kiani (Dorael) Blue, Clarence (Rebecca) Kon IV, Cody Maglinti; step grandchildren, Kiara “Pretty Pretty”, Kawaioha “Precious Peanut”, Leilani, Kaialohilani, Clarence “Mana Boy”; siblings, Margo (Wayne) Ritchie, August (Karen) Caravalho, Donna (Lee) Bradley; nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, and a gazillion Puerto Rican cousins.
