

George W. Thorp, Jr., 84, died peacefully at home in Kailua, Hawaii on January 10, 2024. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1939. He graduated from Wayland High School and attended Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, where he received his degree in Civil Engineering. After working for several years as a civil engineer in Massachusetts, he became weary of the cold and moved to Hawaii in the early 1970’s. George worked in the construction industry in Hawaii for 50 years. He was committed to his Catholic faith. He was ordained as a Deacon on December 5,1981 and served the Diocese of Honolulu as a Deacon for 42 years. George was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Right to Life Movement and served as the National Life Coalition Deputy Director from 1986 to1988. He was also involved in teaching for R.C.I.A and was spiritual advisor for several religious organizations in the Roman Catholic Church. He loved to hunt and fish, especially fishing for trout.
He is survived by his wife Josefina (Serapio), his four sons George W. Thorp III (Charlotte, North Carolina), Michael S. Thorp (Eustis, Florida), Dennis P. Thorp (Houston, Texas) and William C. Thorp (Clinton, Maine), his four grandchildren James Thorp, Elizabeth Thorp, Inna Thorp and Chelsea Dennis, his brothers Joseph Thorp (Acton, Massachusetts), and Robert Thorp (Haleiwa, Hawaii), and his sister Jayne Thorp (Kailua, Hawaii). He is preceded in death by his first wife, Marcia Jane Davenport, his parents George and Florence Thorp, and his brother Paul V. Thorp of (Ashland, Massachusetts).
Services will be at Saint Anthony of Padua, 148 Makawao St. Kailua, Hi on January 29, 2024. Viewing will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with a funeral Mass at 11:00 am. A gathering after Mass will take place in the church hall.
