
Jean Keiko Okimoto, 84, of Las Vegas, NV passed away peacefully in Kaneohe on October 4, 2025. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald Okimoto; her children Dana (Roy) Kiyabu and Frank (Nancy) Okimoto; her grandchildren Sky, Jared, Lauren and Emi; and her brothers Stephen Kawakami and Wayne Kawakami.
Jean grew up in Puunui and attended Farrington High School where she graduated in the Class of 1959 and was their Salutatorian. She went on to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in speech. Finally, Jean earned her Master's degree in library science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1983 and was a member of the Beta Phi Mu International Library Science Honorary Society. She was the first in her family to earn a graduate degree.
Jean worked for 20 years as a State librarian and finished her career as Head Librarian for Kahuku Public and School Library. In 2004, she retired so that she could babysit her first granddaughter. She loved shopping on Home Shopping Network, traveling with her high school gang, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Services will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park (located at 45-425 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, HI 96744) on December 17, 2025. Visitation begins at 9:00am, service at 10:00am followed by a light lunch.
