

She was born in Moundville, Alabama, the youngest of ten brothers and sisters. Mary Lou attended Akron High School from 1st grade through 12th grade and graduated with honors - Valedictorian of the Class of 1950. After which she graduated from nursing school at the Mobile Infirmary and relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. It was here where she met her husband Dr. Mathew Lee of Hawaii. Together they had three children: Mathew Jr., Wende, and Randall, raising their family in New York City.
After her nursing career, Mary Lou continued her love for helping others by becoming a mental health counselor for a crisis hotline. She enjoyed music and art; nature and animals; reading, movies, and cooking. Her passion for travel and learning about various cultures led her to all 50 states and 46 countries on all 7 continents - including Antarctica.
Mary Lou relocated to her husband’s home state of Hawaii, building her dream house on the North Shore of Oahu. Until her death, she remained very active in the community with senior group activities, weekly bridge games, orchid growing, and gardening.
Mary Lou was predeceased by her husband Mathew H.M. Lee. She is survived by her son Mathew Lee Jr. and daughter-in-law Jacqueline of Kahalu’u, Hawaii; daughter Wende Lee, son-in-law Bruce Beinert, and grandson Zane of Corvallis, Oregon; son Randall Lee, daughter-in-law Sherese, grandson Shui Sang, and step-grandsons Reggie and Darren Robinson of New York, New York; and her beloved cat India.
Loving, generous, and the very embodiment of Ohana and Aloha - her family and great many friends will continue her legacy of embracing and living life to the fullest.
