Born on September 8, 1936 in Honolulu, she was grew up in Kalihi Valley with her 8 siblings. A proud graduate of Farrington High School, she participated in Volleyball, Basketball and Softball. While at Farrington she met her husband George and they married in Valejo, California in June of 1954.
Winona had several careers starting off with the Gold Bond Stamp Company. She then moved on to be Head of Security at Liberty House and Andrade stores. Looking to tap into her entrepreneur skills, she became owner of Ziebart for 12 years. Winona rounded off her career as secretary and aid to Office of Hawaiian Affairs Trustee Rowena Akana and then Trustee Donald Cataluna. After 12 years at OHA, she retired to live and enjoy a happy life with her family and extended family.
Winona is predeceased by her husband of 52 years George Wakinekona and son George Kevin Gaison. She is survived by children Blane (Donnalei), Gary, Winona (Seminar), Gail (Tyrone)and Paul. 13 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. Also siblings Kenneth (Tiny) Wedemeyer, Bridget Iseke and Lucy Wedemeyer.
Winona was the type of person that always considered others as more important than herself. Her family was her "pride and joy" especially the keiki's. She had an unconditional love for her family and it was always FAMILY FIRST. Respect, Honor and Humility were the qualities and traits dear to her and which she lived by. These are the gems she has passed down to her children.
A services will be held on Friday, June 12, 2020.
