

Alverda D. Scott, 77, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away June 20, 2012 at Providence Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family after a long bout of cancer. Graveside services will be noon, Monday, June 25 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home and Cemetery, 701 N. 94th St, KC, KS. Visitation will be from 10-noon, Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Alverda was born January 4, 1935 in Louisburg, Kansas to Noah and Mildred Taylor. She was married to Melvin T. Scott. Alverda was a very capable woman; she was the office manager for Snap-On Tools and also helped run Scott’s Trucking Company with her husband. She loved games of all kinds; such as the “bump-bump” marble game that her father made, cards, and Wii Bowling. Alverda would make trips to the casino boats whenever she would get the chance. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin T. Scott in 1994, her daughter Rena McMillen and son-in-law Bob McMillen as well as her sister Terry Buchanan.
Alverda is survived by her two sons Dennis Scott and Rose Marie; David Scott and Sheila; four sisters, Donna Miller, Verle Ashlock, QueVee Vaughn and Betty Ainey; granddaughter Kristie Yingling and her husband Sam and 6 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
