

It is with great sadness that we announce Benton Ray Maxwell, age 75, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away unexpectedly at the AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Medical Center on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Benton was born on August 2, 1946, in Monterey, Tennessee to his loving parents Pete and Josephine Maxwell.
He is survived by his children: Timothy Maxwell, Steven Tedder and Steven’s wife Megan Tedder; his stepchildren: Paul Bennett, Shannon Bennett, Danny Bennett, and his “adopted” son Kevin Kincaid; his brothers: Paul Maxwell, Roger Maxwell, Carl Maxwell, John Maxwell, and Pete “Junior” Maxwell; his sisters: Linda Bulman, Brenda Moulin, Peggy Maxwell, Debby Lucas, and Dorothy Kavanaugh. Also, surviving are his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Benton was proceeded in death by his parents, Pete and Josephine Maxwell; his first wife Sandy Maxwell; his second wife Sherri Maxwell; and his third wife Alice Maxwell. He was also proceeded in death by his brother, Danny Maxwell; his nephew, Daniel Joe Maxwell “Lil Dan”; his nephew, Billy Baker; and his grandson, Christopher Scott Matt-Tedder.
Benton was a hard-working, selfless father and grandfather who never sat still. He was a man of many trades and talents. Benton served his country in the Air Force. He was a great mechanic, known to fix-up and race some pretty amazing cars. Benton spent most of his working career working alongside his brother, Danny Maxwell. Together they built Danny’s company, DJ’s Foundation and Flatwork. He had a love for all things motorcycle, including spending time riding with his close friends and family whenever he had the chance. If he was not out riding or in the garage working on a car, you would find him working in his amazing garden every summer—sending his freshly homegrown produce home with others for them to enjoy too!
A visitation for Benton will be held Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
