Charles L. Mize, 89, formally of Elnora and Lafayette, IN and Goodson, MO passed away after a brief illness on May 30th, 2025. Charles had been living with his daughter Connie and her husband Oscar Hamilton in the Kansas City, KS area. He was born on March 29th,1936 to John E. and Norma L. Mize in Elnora, IN. Charles was a 1955 graduate of Elnora High School. Charles married Nancy Riester of Washington, IN on August 5, 1956 (now divorced) and they had 5 children. Charles Jr wife Darla of Lafayette, IN, John (deceased), Connie husband Oscar Hamilton of Leavenworth, KS, Terri Ward of Kansas City, KS, Holly husband Doug Rogers of Kansas City, KS. He also joined the Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1958. Charles had 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was very proud of his children, their families, and enjoyed seeing or hearing about the upcoming family additions. Charles spent most of his work career in the Sand and Gravel business. He served as the manager of Mize’s Sand & Gravel Company in Elnora, IN as well as Builders Sand in the Kansas City area.
Charles enjoyed tinkering, fishing, NASCAR and Indy Car racing, the western channel, and jigsaw puzzles. He was also a big sports fan enjoying Purdue basketball, March Madness, and Kansas City Chiefs football. During his summer visits to Indiana, he enjoyed mowing the grass and time in the pool. His smile and awesome hugs will be dearly missed. Charles was a member of the Elnora Christian Church and the Elnora Masonic Lodge 616 F&AM. He is survived by 1 son, 3 daughters, as well as his sister Mary Johanningsmeier Tallahassee, FL, Aunt Patricia Snyder Southport, IN, and Cousin Judy Mize, Odon, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Norma Mize and his son John Mize.
A memorial service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, KS on June 6, 2025, from 5 to 8 PM. The funeral will be held at Meng Family Home, Odon, IN on June 14, 2025. Friends may call from 11 AM to 1 PM. Masonic Lodge memorial service will be conducted at this time with the funeral service to follow. Final interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Elnora, IN with military graveside rites.
