

David Gene Rose, son of the late Gene G. Rose and the late Irene Rose (Odle), joined his heavenly family on August 8, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Aurora, Missouri. He was born March 17, 1939, at Providence Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. David married his childhood sweetheart, Jonanne Rose (Powell), on August 25, 1961. He graduated the following year with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the College of Education at Kansas State University. Following graduation, he and Jonanne began teaching together in Kansas City, Kansas. After a few years, David took his love of numbers into the business sector, from which he then retired. David was an avid woodworker, outdoorsman, and all-around-handyman, who never turned down a project, no matter how challenging.
David was a passionate member of the White Church Christian Church and many Masonic organizations. He joined the Wyandotte Lodge #3 on March 13, 1967, and reached the sublime degree of Master Mason within two months. David then became a Shriner on August 11, 1986. He was also a member of the Northeast Kansas Scottish Rite Valley, the Red Cross of Constantine, and the Kansas City York Rite. While in the York Rite, David served as High Priest in 1999 and Commander in 2002, as well as earned the Grand Council Adult Youth Leadership Award in 1996. He also served as a fifty-two-year member of the Gladiola Chapter #459 of the Order of Eastern Star, where he was a Worthy Patron and on the Grand Chapter Committees ten times. David was a cherished participant in the Delaware Chapter of DeMolay, becoming an advisor in 1981, when his son joined, until 1985 and again in 2001-2017. He served as the chapter’s Awards Advisor, Treasurer, and Chairman of the Advisory Council over the next twenty-six years and received the Honorary Legion of Honor in 1993, the Cross of Honor, and the Guild of the Leather Apron (Advisor of the Year).
David was preceded in death by his wife, Jonanne, in 2021; only son, David J. Rose, in 1998; and brother, John G. Rose, in 2010.
David will be missed by his sister, Julie A. Beall; grandchildren Quinn R. Amerine (Rose), Heather A. Rose, and David E. Rose; and great-grandchildren Cadence A. Amerine, Grace A. Amerine, Storm Amerine, Noah J. Amerine, David J. Rose, and Annastasia L. Rose.
In honor of David, the family request that you wear his favorite color, red, to his funeral. A visitation will be from 10-11 AM with a funeral service starting at 11 AM, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112. Interment will be immediately following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
