Donald J. Wesselmann

Donald J. Wesselmann, Jr., 48, of Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12th at Chapel Hill-Butler, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, January 11th at the funeral home. Interment will follow the funeral service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.

Don was born September 20, 1964 in Kansas City, Kansas to Donald and Phyllis (Glasgow) Wesselmann. A lifelong KC area resident, Don graduated from Washington High School in 1983. He was a foreman for Double Check Construction for 13 years and also worked for Metro Protective Services as a security guard, mainly for the NASCAR races. Don liked watching football, wrestling, basketball and umpired softball and youth baseball teams. He collected baseball cards, sports collectibles and cookie jars. Don was a family man and loved and cared for his family more than anything.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Phyllis Wesselmann, his father-in-law, Charles VanGosen, and nephew Ricky Marcus II.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Shelly L. Wesselmann of the home; four children, Kasey Harp and husband Anthony of KCK, Samantha Wesselmann and fiancé Kevin Bagby of Tonganoxie, KS, Erin Wesselmann of the home, Shelby Wesselmann of the home; one granddaughter, Brooklyn Bagby of the home; one brother, James D. Nelson of Holton, KS; four sisters, Jackie Begesse of Atchison, KS, Rose Ener of Pasadena, TX, Pam Forrester of Arkansas, Debbie Falke of Florida; his mother-in-law, Sherry VanGosen; three nieces, Renee Rinke, Dakota Preble, Cheyenne Preble; his nephew, Shaun Goth; as well as his Double Check and Metro Protective Services families.
